In late August, myself and 2 friends visited the World Trade Center Site in NYC. On every visit, I must go see St. Paul’s Chapel and take photos of all the memorials people have left there.
There is such a heavy air to the entire area surrounding the WTC site. You feel it immediately as you are on the PATH train nearing the site, then as you are stories underneath what was blown up on 9-11, going up the escalators to get to street level.
When I am there, I don’t get the chance to think about what I used to see there as a little girl, or the times I was up on the roof of Tower 2 looking down at the city, the harbor, and across to my home in NJ (wondering, “if I dropped a penny from here, what would happen?”). No, I am too distracted now by the intense energies all around – not from the thousands of (living) people all crammed into such a small area, but from something else. My skin crawls. My nose picks up the smell of death still lingering 9 years later. Its not a happy place.
Ok, back to the Chapel. St. Paul’s Chapel was directly across the street from the 2 main towers that fell on 9-11-01. Yet, it was minimally damaged, and survived – while everything else next to it was demolished. Scores of people ran in there for safety, and were saved there.
Today it is a Shrine of sorts. Its beautiful. So of course, I want my Southern friends who came to visit to see it and know the recent history that this centuries old building called “the oldest surviving church building in Manhattan.”, (having been built in 1766.)
I take photos. I take photos of EVERYTHING. So in usual Lele fashion, I went off on my own and started snapping away, making my way through the crowds of tourists and families of the memorialized.
It was not till a week later when I was home and going through my usual 1,000 shot trip, that some odd things caught my eye in the Chapel shots.
I tried reason – lighting, dust, someone else’s flash?….but after having ruled those options out, I am still unsure of what I caught with my camera.
And not just Inside the Chapel.
These 2 photos were shot in succession, no pause.
No photoshop, no editing, no color correction, Nothing was done to these. yet. Click on them to see the full size.
There are more in other areas of the Chapel, but these were the most visible.
Now this one HAS to be the lighting, Right? I have no idea what to even make of this one. A perfect Loop around the steeple that goes down around it behind the trees?
So there. I have posted my unexplainable shots. I do believe in certains things of another nature, but I’m not saying that’s what this is in these photos. I have no idea what this is. But if ever a place should be haunted, it is definitely this place.
Please leave some comments of your own experiences at the WTC site, photos, or experiences elsewhere.
Thank you!
Lisa Hellen
Inside St. Paul’s Chapel across the street from the World Trade Center site, candles are lit by visitors in remembrance of those lost on 9/11, of those who fought to survive that day, and for a thousand other reasons.
Not one candle was unlit, but as I watched people go up to the small altar, a flame would go out for that person to relight.
My website for my modeling work will soon be up as well – showcasing all past work, and all the new jobs I have booked throughout the end of this year.
I am currently in need of a MUA & Hair Stylist in the NEPA area who want to collaborate on several projects in the next coming months.
Until then, I leave with you with a Scarred Karma Studios horror shot of myself:
Now, back to editing!!
